Heritage Open Day

Winterbourne Medieval Barn, built in 1342, is a unique surviving example of a great medieval Barn built by a gentry family. It’s estimated that as many as 240 oak trees were used to build the main roof structure. Winterbourne is believed to be the only surviving example of a medieval barn of this size that was built & used by the lord of the manor rather than by the church.

The main barn & grounds will be open for you to look around at your leisure with some of our volunteer tour guides on hand to answer any questions you have about our beautiful site.
Find out about the medieval “everyday histories” of the people who worked here as well as the ruthless Lord of the Manor, Sir Thomas de Bradeston,  and his rise to power which may, or may not, have involved the murder of a King!
