Help Save Winterbourne Medieval Barn
for the Community
Crowdfunder appeal exceeds target !
With a goal of £7,500 to help save Winterbourne Barn, the Trust launched its very first online giving appeal using Crowdfunder and smashed its target within days of being launched.
So keen were donors to give and help the Trust raise the money needed to create a rural heritage centre, that a new stretch target had to be set and at the close of the appeal, Winterbourne had raised £10,000 from 84 donors !
Many donors opted to simply make donations, and almost all of these did so under the Gift Aid scheme which further enhanced their gifts, whilst others selected from the list of rewards that included a print of the Barn specially created for the appeal.
The Trust also received a generous grant of £3,750 from the Heritage Lottery Fund working with NESTA, the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts - who were keen to promote online giving amongst the many projects working to bring historic buildings back into use.
Rewards will soon be sent out to everyone who opted for this.
Sue Parsons, Chairman of WMBT said: "Iím thrilled that the Trustís first attempt at online fundraising has been so successful. It offers a really convenient way for donors to give and because donations were matched, up to a value of £3,750, we easily reached our target and went beyond! Whatís more, we found that whilst we have some very generous donors living right on the Barnís doorstep, we even found an American donor, with roots very clearly in the village, who was keen to help out. My sincere thanks to everyone who gave so generously, we couldnít have done it without your support."
Sue is also keen to encourage people to continue giving either via cash or cheque or via the JustGiving page :
Recognising that not everyone can afford to give, Sue is keen to hear from anyone with links to a local club, society, womenís group, Brownie or Scout troop or U3A group that could help with the fundraising efforts.
Groups can either invite a member of the Trust to give a talk about the Barn and its history or they can hold their own fundraising event for the Barn.
Another way that people can help support the Barn is to become a member by following this link :
